IMPORTANT NEWS RE COURTENAY MEDICAL ASSOCIATES
Important Update for Our Patients
We are pleased to announce that, effective September 1, 2026, Courtenay Medical Associates will become Valley Cedars Medical Clinic.
From September 1, Dr. Thompson and Dr. Neumann will assume leadership of the clinic as it begins this exciting new chapter. Initially, the clinic will continue operating from its current location. In the near future, we will relocate to a new clinic within Courtenay, and we will keep patients informed well in advance of that move.
Your Care
-
Patients of Dr. Thompson will continue to receive their care through Valley Cedars Medical Clinic. During the remainder of 2026, while Dr. Thompson continues to serve as President of Doctors of BC, Dr. Chow and Dr. Neumann will provide additional support for his practice. Dr. Thompson will return to full-time clinical practice in 2027.
-
Dr. Neumann will also assume the care of some of Dr. Gee's patients and will continue building his full patient panel throughout 2027.
-
Krista Maxwell NP, will be transferring her practice and patients to Valley Cedars Medical Clinic.
-
Zoe Bosschaart NP, who will also be assuming the care of some of Dr. Gee's patients, will be transferring her practice to Valley Cedars Medical Clinic.
-
Our RN team, Kelly Strudwick and Kenny Gee (currently on maternity leave) will continue to provide nursing services at Valley Cedars Medical Clinic.
Welcoming New Providers
We are delighted to welcome two new Nurse Practitioners to our team beginning September 1, 2026:
-
Karlee Holm, NP
-
Maja Stairs, NP
Both are originally from the Comox Valley and will be accepting patients through the Health Connect Registry.
We are also continuing to recruit additional healthcare providers. We are currently awaiting confirmation of another Nurse Practitioner joining the clinic and hope to welcome up to four additional physicians during 2027.
Changes Within the Current Clinic
As many of you know:
-
Dr. Gee is retiring (see below)
-
Dr. Bakshi will be joining ValleyCare Medical Clinic - more information here
-
Dr. Van Der Poll will be closing his practice.
We wish each of them every success in their next chapter and thank them for their dedicated service to Courtenay Medical Associates and our community.
A New Medical Record System
As part of this transition, we will be introducing a new electronic medical record system designed to improve your experience with our clinic. This will provide enhanced online appointment booking and a secure patient portal where you can receive messages directly from your physician or nurse practitioner.
To take advantage of these new services, please ensure we have your current email address on file.
We look forward to sharing more information with you over the coming weeks, including the launch of the Valley Cedars Medical Clinic website before September 1.
Thank you for your continued trust and support as we begin this exciting new chapter. We look forward to continuing to provide exceptional care for you and your family.
Dr Gee Retiring
Dr Gee is retiring this summer. We are grateful for his service at Courtenay Medical Associates:
Please read his letter to Patients:
Dear Patient,
I’m writing to inform you that I have decided to retire on August 31, 2026. This decision has not
come easily. Caring for you has been one of the greatest privileges of my life and career. I am
deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me and for allowing me to share in the important
moments of your health and life journey.
I graduated from Birmingham Medical School in 1986 and feel very fortunate to have completed a
medical elective in London, Ontario as part of my undergraduate medical training. This was the
start of a long relationship with this wonderful country and its people. After completing my Family
Medicine Residency in 1991 I went on to build a large and progressive teaching practice in the UK
over the next 19 years. Teaching and mentoring have been an important part of my professional
life and I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the UBC Family Medicine Strathcona
Residency Program here locally for the last 14 years.
My family & I made the life-changing decision to move to the Comox Valley in 2010. Since arriving
in this community, we have been welcomed with immense kindness, warmth and generosity.
This is now the place we call home and I will always carry enormous appreciation for the people
who allowed us to become part of their lives.
Over the past 16 years, I had the privilege of caring for you through times of joy, uncertainty,
illness, recovery, loss, and resilience. I am inspired by your courage, humour, patience, and
humanity. Thank you for allowing me to work alongside you in pursuit of your wellbeing.
I am pleased to share that Zoe Boschaart (NP), Krista Maxwell (NP), & Paul Neumann (MD) will be
offering ongoing care to my patients.
I would be grateful if you could register with them before my last day otherwise a provider will be
assigned to you.
It has been an honour and a privilege to walk alongside you through so many chapters of life.
I leave with deep appreciation for the opportunity to have served as your Family Physician.

New Physicians and Nurse Practitioners
Courtenay Medical Associates is pleased to announce that Dr Paul Neumann is joining us this Summer. Dr Neumann is a US trained Physician who has worked in Oregon and worldwide setting up Healthcare Services. He will be taking over the care of some of Dr Gee's patients. He will also be supporting Dr Adam Thompson's patients through 2026 as Dr Thompson continues his work as President of Doctors of BC. Dr Thompson will continue to work part-time in 2026.
In 2027 both Drs Neumann and Thompson will be working in full time practice. This will enable Dr Neumann to accept more patients from the Health Connect Registry later this year.
We are also pleased to announce that Nurse Practitioner Zoe Bosschaart is joining us. She is an experienced Family Nurse Practitioner who has been working in North Vancouver. She will be taking over the care of some of Dr Gee's patients and then over time will be accepting new patients from the Health Connect Registry.
We hope to shortly bring you more exciting news on new Nurse Practitioners and Family Physicians joining the clinic in 2026!
